What’s in it for me? by Bruce Adams (the Ice Cream Man)

After being told to share the spiritual view of creation that God had presented to me with my fellow man, it did not take me long to discover how gullible I was. When I say I discovered I was
gullible, I do not mean, I was not worldly or unaware of how to live in this world from a human perspective.  Seeing how, I have been self employed since I was 19 years old and had owned and operated several different businesses, I was not so naive to the ways of the world. What I was unaware of was, how much or how little others knew God and their relationship to God.

Having been brought up in America, I heard something that you most likely have heard yourself and perhaps more than once. What I heard was, there are two things we should never talk about. Those two things are religion of politics.   On one hand, that is sound advice and unless there is a desire to share rather than a desire to convince or convert others, I believe most would do well by adhering to such wisdom. On the other hand, if we never talk about or discuss our true beliefs, how do we know what others understand or really believe?

Obviously, to discover what others feel or believe there must be a form of dialog that takes place.
Notice I said dialog rather than talk. As mentioned above, a desire to share rather than convince or convert others, is a prerequisite or the wrong me will be speaking. Yes, you did read that correctly. I did just say the wrong me.

Because this is such an important point I wish to take a minute and explain. For those who have been following my blogs, you may recognize a common theme being presented. To me, I feel that we owe it to ourselves and to others to be as conscious of our motivation as possible. When Christ spoke of it being impossible to serve two masters, he was speaking in terms of consciousness. The masters he was referring to were the ego self (human personality) or the Spiritual Self (that which is one with the whole/GOD).

Have you ever heard people say, "forgive me, I am only human." To me, whenever I hear someone parrot that familiar slogan, what I hear is, their ego's looking for an excuse to continue their actions and exempt them from responsibility for the moment. In terms of "REALITY" we are all Spiritual beings playing human. The greatest gift you can give yourself and others is to become aware of and remain awake to this fact.

The greatest obstacle you will face is the judgmental mind. It is there were the patterns of beliefs you have adopted and use as a standard to place a value on people, places, and things will cause you to imagine/see something that is not true.

“And for this cause God shall send them a strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.”
2 Thessalonians 2:11

“They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.”
2Timothy 4:4

That said, we all must decide in each moment not only how we see others, but also, how we see ourselves. From the human perceptive, the word me, refers to the individual (personality self).

Holding such a perception is the natural state for our egos and is the root cause of all fear. Another interpretation of the word me, is from the spiritual view. As spirit, we all are part of one universal consciousness. Christ understood this enough to say “What you do for the least of my brothers you do for me”

Arriving at to this understanding is so important that it can be found at the core of many traditions or teachings. For example, The Bhagavad Gita states, the aim of life in this world is to reach the highest state of consciousness i.e. (the awakened state).

While Jesus was attempting to bring his followers to this state through his teachings, others found themselves on different paths and learning from different masters. For example, those who emulate Buddha and detach from the outer world, and live as Buddha lived, will ultimately discover what he meant when he declared “I am Awake.”

Looking back to the Bhagavad Gita once again, the same state is referred to as Krishna Consciousness (God consciousness). Accordingly, when the devotee achieves this higher level of awareness, he is delivered from the perpetual cycle of reincarnation and will reside in eternal ecstasy with Lord Krishna (God). This higher level of awareness has been described in other ways by other traditions. To achieve such a state there is a common requirement however. That requirement is that an internal shift takes place and everything and everyone is seen as Spirit.

In the Bible for example it says, “God is spirit, and those who worship God must worship in spirit and truth.”
John 4:24.

Once you see everything through the eyes of Spirit, it becomes recognizable that it is the destination and not the path that is most important. Beyond the labels or religions, there exists that which is/was and forever shall be unchangeable (Unconditional Love). You can choose to be aware of this or not. The choice you make will determine what’s in it for you.

Regardless of your path or what religion you practice, if you wish to awaken yourself and live awakened in this world you may find yourself reinterpreting your view of reality itself!
More to come…
